How the settings window is organized, and the terms used throughout.

Getting started

MouseTuner is a menu bar app with no Dock icon and no main window. The settings window is the only full interface, opened from the menu bar icon.

Permissions

Accessibility is required for Smooth Scrolling, Button Mapping, and Domain Rules (reading the active browser tab's URL). Without it, the relevant panels explain what's missing and link to System Settings.

Input Monitoring is not required. HID++ goes through a vendor-private interface and Bluetooth GATT, neither of which it governs. A Logitech mouse connected directly over Bluetooth triggers one extra Bluetooth pairing prompt; approving it needs a restart to take effect.

Settings panels

Scroll — the Scroll Curve editor and its live preview.
Buttons — Trigger→Action mapping.
App Overrides — one list of apps that can override both Scroll Curve and Button Mapping.
Devices — DPI, SmartShift, battery, and the control table for Recognized Devices.
Input Source — automatic input method switching by app or browser domain.
General — updates, iCloud sync, crash reporting (off by default).
Permissions — what's granted, what's missing, and why it matters.

Terminology

These terms stay in English in every language MouseTuner ships in, including this documentation.

Trigger: The condition that fires a mapping: click, double-click, long press, a drag in one of four directions, Chord, or Hold + Scroll.
Chord: Two buttons held down at the same time.
Action: What a mapping does: a keyboard shortcut, a system action, a media key, opening an app or a URL, AppleScript, a shell command, or Modifier Hold.
Modifier Hold: An Action that presses a modifier key on button-down and releases it on button-up. Push-to-talk dictation is what it exists for.
Trajectory Gesture: Hold a button and draw a sequence of directions to fire an action. Planned, not implemented yet.
App Override: A Scroll Curve or Button Mapping that replaces the global one while a particular app is in front.
Scroll Curve: The parameter set behind Smooth Scrolling: minimum step, speed gain, duration, decay.
SmartShift: Logitech's automatic switch between a ratcheted wheel and a free-spinning one, controlled over HID++.
Device Profile: What a recognized model can do: its buttons, DPI range, SmartShift support, and how to read its battery.
Recognized Device: A mouse that has a Device Profile, which unlocks the extra hardware controls.
Generic Device: Any other mouse, handled through the Universal HID Layer. Smooth Scrolling and basic Button Mapping still work.
HID++: Logitech's proprietary device protocol. DPI, SmartShift and battery all go through it.
License Key: The string you get after buying. One key per purchase.
Seat: A machine a License Key may be bound to. Three per key.
Credential: Issued on activation and bound to this machine. A one-time purchase, so it carries no expiry date.
Machine Fingerprint: A hash of a stable local identifier. The value it is derived from never leaves your Mac.
Trial: Thirty days of the full app, with no account and no payment method.
Grace: How long the app keeps working when credential checks fail. Fourteen days.
Revocation: Marking a key dead after a refund or a chargeback. The app steps down at its next daily check.
Blind Test: The release gate: five to ten people comparing scroll feel without being told which build is which.
Command: The macOS modifier key. Key names stay in English throughout mappings and shortcuts.
Option: The macOS modifier key, same as above.
